Helmers
William
Helmers has been a member of the clarinet section of the Milwaukee
Symphony Orchestra since 1980. In addition to his work with the
symphony, Bill performs with the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra,
Present Music, and teaches at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
He has also twice chaired the Milwaukee Symphonys orchestra
committee.
In the summers, Bill has been a member of the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra
and has performed at the Washington Island Chamber Music Festival.
He is also active in the performance and recording of new music;
he gave the American premiere of John Adams clarinet concerto,
Gnarly Buttons, in 1997.
Bill holds a B.A. from the Eastman School of Music and a M.M.
from the Juilliard School. He also attended the Music Academy
of the West, Tanglewood, and the Conductors Institute at
the Hartt School of Music.
