Laura Leigh Roelofs In 2004, Laura Leigh Roelofs became an Assistant Professor of Violin and String Pedagogy at Wayne State University. She has taught violin and viola at Georgia State University and Virginia Commonwealth University. Laura holds both M.M. and D.M.A. degrees in performance from Catholic University, where she was a student of Robert Gerle. She earned her Mus. B. in performance from Boston University, as a student of Roman Totenberg. Laura was a student in Organization Development at American University/National Training Laboratories, and completed the core curriculum of the Coach Training Institute. Among the highlights of her performing career was her participation in the Oberon String Quartet, which she helped found in 1993. She is a past member of the Atlanta Chamber Players (violin/viola), and served as assistant concertmaster of the Flagstaff, Arizona Festival Orchestra, where she performed in orchestral and chamber concerts. She has also performed as a member of the Filene Center Orchestra at Wolf Trap Farm Park. Laura was a member of the Richmond Symphony from 1987-2001, where she served as assistant concertmaster. At the RSO, Laura served on the Artistic Advisory Committee and as chair of the Orchestra Committee. She was the RSO's musician representative to the Mellon Forums and deeply involved in the RSO's strategic planning process. A lifelong performer and student of music, Laura has also had a keen interest in organizational and leadership issues within symphony orchestra organizations. |
